1st Hour, 2nd Hour 3rd Hour
Welcome students, learn names etc. Explain the scope and sequence of American History at junior level, 20th century focus. Explain about classroom rules, use of textbooks etc. Hand out tags for entry to online text. Explain about taking notes, ID’s answering questions. Hand out assignment sheet. Assign students to read Ch 13-1 pages 438-443. We will begin in earnest on Monday.

Students should have read ch 13-1. Begin discussion with what do students already know. Native Americans and Indian Wars. Use overhead projector and begin notes and discussion. Notes page 1 and 2. Watch Powerpoint on visuals of Native Americans. Begin notes pare 3 on Custer and Little Big Horn.

Students should have begun to answer ID’s and question #1. Recap the Bignhorn Fight and explain what happened. Go to VCR and watch segment from Son of Morning Star on Big Horn Battle.
Wednesday, August 24 1st and 3rd Hour, Thursday August 25 2nd Hour.
Finish video clip and then discuss what students saw on VCR Clip of Big Horn Battle. Promote discussion, impressions, ideas etc. Finish notes on Native Americans’ transparencies page 3and 4. Allow time in class for homework, questions and work time. Also read Ch 13-2 pages 444-448

Students should hand in assignments for 13-1 and be ready to discuss 13-2.
Begin transparencies page 5 on mining in the west and on to Cattle Kingdom. Page 5-6 Discuss cattle, breeds and the trails especially with local connections. Look at maps of the local area and point out where the trails would have gone. Encourage students to begin homework for 13-2 from assignment sheet. Identify and begin essential questions.
